What We Do

Home Energy Rx employs certified building scientists that provide solutions to improve energy-efficiency in homes. We do not recommend any improvements that do not scientifically and financially make sense. We are not regular contractors that try to sell products or services but rather we are experts that strive to educate in a way that makes sense to homeowners. Want to make your home energy-efficient, comfortable, and lower your utility bills? Here is where to get started.

Step 1) Complete a home energy audit.

Our certified energy auditors complete efficiency tests to measure home air infiltration and duct leakage. They also evaluate the insulation levels in walls, attic, and crawlspace (if applicable) to ensure adequate amounts. Of course, safety is our priority so our auditors perform gas leakage and carbon monoxide tests. At the end of the audit, the auditor will review areas of improvement, solutions, and how much the utility company will cover through incentive programs.

Step 2) Complete energy improvements.

Moving forward with energy improvements that make sense financially is a major step towards an energy efficient home. Obviously, the more improvements you complete, the better your home will be. Potential improvements with utility incentives are:

  • Insulation (attic, walls, crawlspace)
  • Attic ventilation
  • Air sealing
  • Duct sealing and/or modification

Step 3) Behavior.

As a homeowner, there are some things you can do yourself that can substantially help with energy usage. Here are some ideas:

  • Adjusting the temperature on your thermostat (or signing up for a programmable thermostat if you don't have one)
  • Lowering the temperature on your water heater
  • Switch to energy-efficient lighting
  • Install electric smart strips at your entertainment areas
  • Use cold water for laundry
  • Install low-flow showerheads and sink aerators
